News and Announcements

12/12/2016 In response to a request, here is a solution key to the extra homework problems for section 4.3.  (The title of the original extra problems page had an error, referring to section 4.2 instead of 4.3).
12/9/2016 Here is the final portfolio review form I will be using at our exam on Tuesday.  This is an informational item only.   You don't have to do anything with it.  But if you want to know what I will be looking for in the portfolio, review the form.
12/4/2016 We will have our final exam on Tuesday, 12/13.    Detailed information about the exam has been posted.
11/22/2016 In class today I discussed this handout.
11/18/2016 In class tomorrow I will be discussing this powerpoint file and this excel file.
11/6/2016 Exams have been graded and will be returned Tuesday.  Click here for information about the results.  Don't forget that the second lab assignment is due Tuesday, and that will be your opportunity to ask questions about the homework for section 3.6.  Also, note that I have cancelled the third lab assignment.
11/1/2016 Here are solutions to the sample exam questions.
10/26/2016 We will have an exam on Friday, 11/4.    Detailed information about the exam has been posted, including topics covered and review material.
10/24/2016 Here is a handout that may be helpful in using eigenvalues and eigenvectors to find solutions to differential equations of the form Y' = A Y.  Also, I will be presenting some material that is not in the book this week.  Before class Friday, you may want to read through this handout, which contains Friday's homework assignment.
9/28/2016 Exams have been graded and will be returned Friday.  Click here for information about the results.  Don't forget that the first lab assignment is due Friday.
9/23/2016 Here is a copy of the sheet I will fill out when I review portfolios.  You do not need to do anything with it, but can look at it if you would like to see what is supposed to be in the portfolio for the first review.  Also, I have posted a copy of the worksheet from Tuesday's class on our Worksheets page.
9/22/2016 Although we have been meeting in room 136FF, the official room for our course is 136X. Starting on Tuesday, 9/27, we have to move back into 136X.   But that is the day of our exam.  So, take note:  OUR EXAM WILL BE IN 136X.

Portfolios will be reviewed during the exam.  BRING YOUR PORTFOLIO to the exam, and TAKE YOUR PORTFOLIO when you leave.  Please assemble you portfolio following the posted directions here.
9/18/2016 We will have an exam on Tuesday,  9/27.   The review problems on the assignment sheet may help you prepare.  You are not required to do them all, but they are all the sorts of problems that would be reasonable to include on an exam.  You should also be prepared for multiple choice, essay questions, and other questions that test your conceptual understanding of the material.  For example, you should know the conditions under which the existence and unique theorems can be applied, and be able to use the theorems when they do apply.  This topic outline of what we have covered may therefore be helpful.  Class Friday 9/23 will be devoted to review.
9/11/2016
Reminder: Section 1.6 is assigned reading for Tuesday.  Here are some discussion questions I may ask in class.  I will be collecting homework from 1.3 and 1.4, and taking questions on the problems from section 1.5 that will be due on Friday.  See the assignment sheet.
9/5/2016 Reminder: Sections 1.2 and 1.3 are assigned reading for tomorrow.  Here are some discussion questions I will be asking in class.  I will be collecting homework from 1.1, and taking questions on the problems that will be due on Friday.  See the assignment sheet.
8/30/2016 The powerpoint file from today's lecture is here.  For Friday please read section 1.1 and do the assigned problems for that section.  I will not be keeping my scheduled office hours on Thursday this week, so if you have any questions or concerns, please send me an email.
8/24/2016 Is this the right Differential Equations Course for you?
8/24/2016 Before coming to class Tuesday, please print out and fill in this survey.  Bring it to class with you.  Also please review the following documents linked in the table above: Course Info, Course Objectives, Integrity, Portfolio Q&A, Tentative Schedule, Assignment Sheet.  I strongly suggest reviewing these before the first class, so you can ask any questions you might have.
