Foundations of Mathematics Spring 2017
Exam Solutions Group Project
- What must be done?
The group will discuss the exam and make sure that every student in the
group understands and can correctly
answer every question on the
exam. Blank copies of the exam will be available on blackboard,
under content. The
group will prepare a single completed exam, with all answers
correct. Ideally, each member of the group will contribute one or
more solutions to the group submission, and if possible, each student's
contribution should include items he or she missed on the exam.
- What will be turned in? One
complete exam paper with the names of all the group members.
- How will groups be
organized? Students will form groups by mutual
agreement. Each group should have three or four
- How will the results be graded?
The instructor will evaluate each of the completed exams, which will
then be returned to a member of the group. Every member of the
group should make a copy of this completed and graded exam, and put it
in his/her portfolio. Exam solutions will contribute to portfolio
- What are the rules? Students
are free to use any resources they wish, including consultation with
other students, instructors, the text, tutors, and web pages. The
only requirement is that every student in the group play an active
role. See our Academic
Integrity page (paragraph 4).
- Why is this project being
assigned? Taking an exam should be a learning
experience. Making an error on an exam, and then finding and
correcting the error, can be one of the most effective ways to
learn. To provide an additional incentive, some items from the
midterm exams may be repeated on the final exam. Working on exam
solutions will help you be prepared for such items on the final.
